Wow! It’s been almost three years of going natural before I could attempt a twist out on my 4C type hair. It's thick, coily, cotton-like texture for days and has a high density. Using this twist out and separation method has my twist outs thriving. Yes! It is clear across the board successful for type 4 natural hair.
With that said, the twist-out can be a battle for many but a breeze for some. If your healthy tresses are anything like mine, you’re lucky if you get a full day from a twist-out on your kinky, coily, curly hair. It is totally frustrating to spend about two hours of your time to end up with a unintended puff, cotton-like fro at the end of one day.
My routine begins with getting the 2 year old twins down for a nap for at least two hours. Then grab some snacks and my favorite TV show On-Demand, a couple bottles of water, you’re finally finished twisting your natural hair. Now it’s the next day or 8 hours later, because my hair will take a long time to air dry. Now you untwist your hair to reveal your results which is giving you, at last, lovely defined twists. Unfortunately, by the end of the day your hair has completely declared war on you and is puffed out in the worst way. I think for many of us without super thick heads of hair, getting the twist out without the puff ball effect isn’t really that easy as simply twisting hair at night and taking it out in the morning. For me, it was about finding the right products or more so ingredients that would puff up my hair just enough to give the illusion of thicker hair, while still holding the definition of a twist out.
Yes, Camille Rose Naturals. The Almond Jai Twisting Butter and the Fresh Curl Revitalizing Hair Smoother. Two products that some love and some completely hate, but it really comes down to just knowing how to use them. The Almond Jai Twisting Butter is the BEST TWISTING BUTTER EVER! I have been able to achieve the ultimate soft fully twist out with a combination of almond milk, almond oil, jojoba, hemp and a drizzle of honey. My hair is elongated, silky and held in place all day long. I am good for up to two or three days. The Fresh Curl Revitalizing Hair Smoother is my trick to go several days without ending up in an puff ball after the first day.
These two products have been my go to for great twists and wash-n-go's. I fell in love with the way it softens and moisturizes the hair while nourishing the scalp and stimulating growth. This was my true “Lightbulb moment”. I am still a product junkie but once I been there with these products, it’s hard not going back every time.
