Haircare Dos and Don'ts

Haircare Dos and Don'ts

 Hair Care Do's & Don't

The key to beautiful, healthy hair is taking good care of it. But with so much advice out there, it can be hard to determine what’s right and wrong when it comes to haircare. To help make the process easier, we’ve rounded up a few simple dos and don’ts that you can follow for healthier locks. From shampooing to heat styling, these tips will help you keep your hair looking its best!

Do: Use Quality Products

When it comes to haircare, quality products are essential. Whether you’re using shampoo, conditioner, or styling products, using high-quality products will ensure that your hair looks its best. At Beauty Bar & Supply, we carry a variety of premium haircare products from top brands like Kinky Tresses and Honey’s Handmade. So if you want to get the best results for your hair type and texture, make sure you use quality products. Note: When evaluating haircare products, please be sure to read the ingredients.

Don’t: Overwash or Underwash Your Hair

Washing your hair too often can strip away natural oils and weaken your hair follicles. While it may seem counterintuitive, over-washing can actually lead to greasy hair as the scalp produces more oil in an effort to compensate for the lack of moisture. Try washing your hair every other day or just once a week—whichever works best for you—and use dry shampoo in between washes if necessary. This advise is for individuals that tend to have oily hair and mostly straight strands.

For those that have more curly texture and dry hair, you want to make sure to wash your hair fairly routinely. Oftentimes, individuals assume since they have dry hair they shouldn’t wash it often. This is far from the truth. Water is a staple when it comes to hydration. However, the issue with washing your hair often occurs when individuals use products that will strip the natural oils from the hair follicles.   The majority of the time you would want to use shampoos like Honey’s Handmade Honey Cleansing Buttermilk Shampoo which is designed to help retain moisture.

Do: Protect Your Hair from Heat Damage

Heat-styling tools like curling irons and flat irons can be tempting when it comes time for getting ready in the morning, but these tools can cause serious damage if used excessively. Before heat-styling your hair, always use a thermal protection spray or cream to shield your locks from heat damage. And try not to go overboard with blow drying; let your hair air dry whenever possible instead.

Don’t: Brush Wet Hair Too Aggressively   Wet hair is especially fragile and prone to breakage—so brushing too aggressively can lead to split ends and breakage. Instead of using regular bristle brushes or combs on wet hair, opt for wide-toothed combs or detangling brushes that will detangle without tugging on strands too harshly. And never brush from root to tip; start at the bottom of the strand and gently work upwards until all tangles have been removed.  Plus, don’t be afraid to use detangler conditioner to help with the slip. Oyin Handmade On My Glide! Prestyling Conditioner is helpful with allowing your styling tools to more easily glide through your tresses.

With these simple dos and don’ts in mind, keeping your locks healthy should be easy! Remember that quality haircare products are essential for beautiful tresses; try Beauty Bar & Supply for premium haircare items from top brands like Kinky Tresses and Honey’s Handmade! Additionally, avoid overwashing/underwashing or brushing wet strands too aggressively; this will help minimize damage caused by heat styling as well as split ends over time! Following these basic guidelines will ensure that your tresses stay strong and healthy all year round!
